Great Crested Newt

{Triturus cristatus}

With its prominent wavy crest, the great crested newt, also known as the ‘warty newt’, looks like a mini dinosaur!
This protected species favours clean ponds during the breeding season and log piles during the winter.

FACT…
They never stop growing, with females up to 18cm in length.

HABITAT…
Open ponds and gardens, overwintering in log piles.
