Kingfisher

{Alcedo atthis}

Blink and you’ll miss it!
A kingfisher is easy to recognise thanks to its bright blue and metallic copper colours.
It darts along the riverbank or sits patiently on low branches over the water, waiting for its next meal to swim by.

FACT…
A female kingfisher’s beak is half orange, which looks a little like she’s wearing lipstick.

HABITAT…
Ponds, lakes, streams and rivers.

Wildlife facts kindly provided by Cheshire Wildlife Trust.
